I like that Michael said that being a singer is not as strenuous as swinging an axe, because I went to see Britten's Paul Bunyan recently, and the lumberjacks in that spend quite a lot of time doing both simultaneously :D

Oliver - I wonder if you see any parallels (strange as it might seem) between La Calisto and Orpheus in the Underworld - both undermining the seriousness of mythological characters for comic effect?

Jenny - just wanted to say that I though you acquitted yourself admirably on the BBC. I was shocked by that opening question too. Although it could have been worse - you could have been faced with.... SARAH "Isn't opera just a diversion for you and your rich friends?" MONTAGUE!!!!

this is not opera related but I tred the McGB last night. I had never ordered anythihng off the dollar menu at McDonalds before so I was surprised by how cheap it was. The whole this was about 750 calories and it didn't make me feel bad either.
