Michael, could you please elaborate on how a singer could make his/her note "sound higher than it actually is"? I'm interested in getting this peak behind the technical curtain. Thanks.

Jenny died, the Met's first Black Aida died, and also Lisa Della Casa. This was not a good week for some people in opera.

@Craig: In regards to MacNeill, it was just the way he approached the top. Plus the timbre of his voice.

Interesting. So it wasn't necessarily a trick that some singers can use to artificially make their voices sound higher, but something particular to MacNeil. That makes sense.
